R. N. Rudmose Brown [1879-1957]: Spitsbergen in 1914.

The Royal Geographical Society, London 1915. An article in a complete copy of The Geographical Journal, Vol. LXVI, No. 1, July 1915. 13pp. 1 in-text sketch map, and 6 photographic illustrations on two sides of a single plate. 8vo. First edition. Original blue wrappers.

An exceptional travel account of WilliamSpeirs Bruce - a Scottish naturalist, polar scientist and oceanographer - to Spitsbergen during World War I, in 1914, with the objectives of carrying on hydrographic and geographic research in the little-known Wybe Jansz water (Stor-fjord) on the east of Spitsbergen, and secondly, of investigating further the geology of Prince Charles Foreland on the west coast. The account is given by Robert Neal Rudmose-Brown, who was a botanist and polar explorer, and had previously traveled with Dr. Bruce in 1912.

Among other interesting subjects discussed here are hunting, mining, and American, Swedish, German and British land claims.
